Michael Lee-Chin is widely regarded as a visionary entrepreneur whose philosophy of "doing well and doing good" has resulted in extraordinary business success and inspiring philanthropic initiatives.
Michael is Founder and Chairman of Portland Holdings, a privately held investment company that manages public equity and private equity, and has an ownership interest on a collection of diversified businesses operating globally in sectors including financial services, insurance, consumer goods, media, tourism, agriculture, real estate development and targeted radionuclide therapy.
Today Michael remains firmly committed to creating wealth for investors as Chairman of the Mandeville Group of Companies, comprised of an investment dealer, an investment fund manager, portfolio manager and exempt market dealer. This group of companies includes: Mandeville Private Client Inc., Mandeville Insurance Services Inc., and Portland Investment Counsel Inc.
Among his many personal accomplishments, Michael has received Doctor of Laws degrees from a number of distinguished universities in Canada and Jamaica. Michael is the recipient of the Order of Jamaica and the Order of Ontario. He served as Chancellor of Wilfred Laurier University from 2011-2016. In 2016, Michael was appointed Chair of the Government of Jamaica's Economic Growth Council in an effort to bolster economic development.

His first venture, HD Electronics, a successful electronics refurbishment business in Downtown Hamilton, sparked his commitment to delivering high-quality, customer-focused solutions. Recognizing a growing need for reliable IT support among small businesses, he launched Joe Apps Technology Support, which has since become a pillar of excellence in the Canadian tech community.
Under Joseph’s leadership, Joe Apps Technology Support has grown to serve over 850 clients across Canada, providing tailored solutions that prioritize security, operational efficiency, and community impact. He is actively involved in the Chambers of Commerce across Ontario and has formed partnerships with organizations like Comfort Bears, Dare to Be Youth, Food4Kids and Halton Women’s Place.
Joseph’s contributions to the business community have earned him prestigious accolades, including the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award (2022) from the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, the FirstOntario 1Awards, recognizing his exceptional leadership and dedication to innovation and the Business Link Media's Top 40U40 Awards.
Beyond his professional achievements, Joseph is committed to continuous learning and growth, both personally and professionally.
He actively participates in initiatives such as Tec Canada and EOS, refining his leadership skills and aligning his business with world-class standards.

Outside of work, Joseph enjoys snowboarding, video games, and traveling, particularly to visit family in England. He values time spent with loved ones and embraces opportunities to give back to the community that has supported him throughout his career.
Meet our Emcee, Dan Lawrie, Chairman & Founder of Lawrie Insurance Group!
Prior to founding the Lawrie Insurance Group, Dan spent several years in accounting & sales with a mutual fund company, a truck manufacturer and a leading property/casualty insurer. He then became a partner in a life & disability brokerage, where his accounting experience and sales background helped the company become a leading advisory service firm in Hamilton. Seeing a need for a new holistic approach to servicing clients in the property/casualty sector, he created a multi-disciplined insurance & risk management company in 1982, Dan Lawrie Insurance Brokers which later became the Lawrie Insurance Group Inc. that now ranks in the top 5% of independent brokerages in Canada.
Dan is the recipient of many community awards, including recognition as Hamilton’s 2016 Citizen of the Year, Burlington Chamber of Commerce – Distinguished Entrepreneur of the Year 2015. Edward C. Bovey Business for the Arts nominee, and recipient of The Incite Award for the Arts. He is the founder and creator of the Dan Lawrie International Sculpture Collection at the Royal Botanical Gardens and has been involved with many public art projects with organizations like the Joseph Brant Museum and the Burlington Performing Arts Centre. As an active community volunteer, he has served on many committees and boards, including the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau of South Central Ontario, The Burlington Economic Development Committee, Burlington Flood Relief, United Way, The Hamilton Club, Canadian Brokers Network Group and many Insurance Company advisory councils. He is an active Angel Investor and a founding board member of the Angel One Investor Network.
Dan holds a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) degree, is a Chartered Financial Broker & currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Art Gallery of Burlington.
